Hello

Welcome!

My name is Rebecca.

I am an Inclusive Arts practitioner, Illustrator, Textile Designer and the founder of R A Design.

SO WHAT IS INCLUSIVE ART?

'Inclusive Art is creative collaborations between marginalised* and non-marginalised artists.'

It supports the development of knowledge and skills, enabling collaborations that can result in high quality art work and creative experiences.

The collaborative processes of Inclusive Arts support a mutually beneficial two-way creative exchange that helps us all as artists to learn and unlearn**from each other.

It places the non-marginalised artists in the more radical role of collaborator and proposes a shift away from the traditional notion of ‘worthy helper’. Through re-defining this role and shedding the idea of the ‘expert’ artist, room is made for everyone and also acknowledges the valuable and skilful contribution that marginalised communities can bring to the arts.

(Marginalised)* To treat a person, group, or concept as insignificant.

(Unlearn)**To discard something learned, especially a bad habit or false or outdated information from one's memory.

My Story

Mission Statement

"Bringing Inspiration, Innovation And Greater Equality By Raising Awareness Through Art And Design as well as Providing A Safe, Creative Environment For All, In Particular Those In Marginalised Groups"

I am passionate about making a positive difference when it comes to taking care of our planet, and standing up for those who don't often have a voice of their own, looking in particular at Social Injustices and Taboo Subjects. These are the main driving forces behind every design I create within R A Design, along with a passion for producing detailed illustrations that are visually eye catching, vibrant and bold.

Raising awareness of the current barriers many face in society is very important to me, and creating opportunities for people to explore their creative talents through the Arts, including those from marginalised groups such as people with learning disabilities,

is something that I believe can be incredibly eye opening and fruitful for all involved.

 Core Values

~Inclusivity~

~Empowerment~

  ~Equality~

“My Belief Is That Everyone Should Have Access To The Arts To Enable Us To All Learn And Unlearn From Each Other. Gaining New Skills And Exploring Our Own Unique Potential In A Safe, Non Judgemental And Inclusive Environment”

What I do

I am an Inclusive Art Practitioner and my experience during my previous art research project, which took place during Lockdown in summer 2021, highlighted the fact that creating together on platforms such as Zoom, particularly to music, is something which could benefit many of us.

Having access to the Arts is extremely important to our mental health and well being, which is why this type of platform could be highly benificial,  particularly for people with limited movement or who are unable to get out easily due to personal circumstances. For example, those who have physical disabilities, the elderly and those who suffer with social anxiety and find face to face socialising difficult or uncomfortable.

As well as looking at running creative online workshops with those in marginalised groups, I am always looking to collaborate with like minded people and organisations, and I am currently working towards providing a safe and creative environment in Sussex for us to learn new skills and explore our creative potential together.
